The Elephant Café is Two Months Old Today

The Elephant Café, in which I am a partner and the Chef de Cuisine, is two months old today. Instead of writing about its story so far, I have chosen instead to compile a slideshow that illustrates it. As you can see, I’m in heaven … 🙂

With grateful thanks to Hugh Masekela for his sublime Grazing in the Grass.

Annabel Hughes Aston is a writer and an award-winning chef in Livingstone, Zambia. She is the creator of "bush gourmet" cuisine.

  • Happy birthday! I feel so fortunate to be among the privileged few who have actually experienced the wonder of the Elephant Café! Though I’m sure many more will follow in my footsteps…

    • And I am sincerely happy to have had you and your family as some of our first guests … all the way from Bluemont, Virginia! Please come back soon! xo

    • Thank you, Michelle. What Donald Trump ad, I ask you? I pay to have no random advertising on this site, harrumph! I hope we will see you here one day? 🙂

  • Looks divine Annabel!! Rita Chance and I have been meaning to get there for a lunch but the last time she tried to book you were closed!! So we definitely on a mission to make a lunch of it when we both next up in Livingstone!!

    • Thank you, Fiona. Yes … Rita and I were in touch, but on that particular day you wanted to come we weren’t open. We are now every day, so we look forward to feeding you soon!

  • Hey Annabel,
long time….your Elephant Cafe looks totally amazing – where is it? On the tobacco farm somewhere? I hope to come to Livingstone before end of the year and would love to make a turn!!
Your Savannah Bell logo is also extraordinarily beautiful – love it!!!
Sorry that I haven’t been in touch – city life is exhausting!! It’s only now – that I’m recovering from an op – that I’m home and have some time for ‘musings’…miss the river, Livingstone, miss you all!!
    Lots of love
    Daniela (Pretoria)

    • Daniela! Hi! Great to hear from you, although sorry to hear you’ve had an op. I so hope you are on the mend …
The Elephant Cafe is in the National Park on a deck in the Zambezi River. It was built by SafPar, in amongst their herd of rescued elephants. It is indeed a very special spot. You must definitely come and visit when you’re next up here. Just give me a heads-up and I will put you in touch with the right people.
Much gratitude for your kind comment about my SavannaBel logo. It was designed by another Livingstonian, Karlien Geldenhys, who also updated my website. Amazing what talent this little town is producing these days!
We miss you, too, and look forward to seeing you sometime. Get well, take it easy, and this comes with lots of love to you … xo

  • Incredible.

    • Much gratitude, Chef Mimi. Come and visit! 🙂

  • Hope to visit you when we are at the Falls with Clive Wakefield in October..Moura Coral and Gallow family

    • We look forward to feeding you! Thank you for your interest. All the best, Annabel
